WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO

We are a non-partisan, non-profit, non-sectarian organization with the purpose of discovering and collecting any material or objects that may help to verify and preserve the history of the town of Monson, Maine. Our goal is to provide the preservation of such material and make it accessible, as far as may be feasible, to all who wish to examine and study it.

The Monson Historical Society held its first meeting in November of 1972 and has grown throughout the years.

We welcome anyone to our monthly meetings which are held on the third Thursday of each month with the exception of November, December, January, February and March.

MONSON MUSEUM

The Monson Museum is located on Main Street (Greenville Road) in Monson, right next to the town hall. Summer hours for the Museum and Scandinavian Gift Shop are on Saturday, from 10am to 2pm. Included in the collections on display for 2008 are items from the Monson Narrow Gauge Railroad, military memorabilia from the Revolutionary War to the current action in Iraq, Monson Fair, Juanita Grange, a display of slate mining, the Spruce Gum business, Monson Academy trophies, Monson Band instruments and much, much more. We invite you to browse through the wonderful collection of photos, documents and scrap books. A friendly atmosphere, great volunteers and a beautiful view up Lake Hebron!
