Monson Plans 175th Celebration, Activities
MONSON - The town of Monson will be celebrating its 175th anniversary of incorporation throughout 1997. A group of volunteers have formed an anniversary committee and have been very busy this fall planning activities. A successful fundraiser supper was held in October. Historical calendars depicting sights from the early days in Monson are available.
A commemorative cookbook, featuring a "golden oldies" section, has been published. Anniversary caps, T-shirts and sweatshirts have been screened. Proceeds from the sale of the calendars, cookbooks and wearables will fund anniversary activities. Members of the committee will have the above mentioned items for sale at the SeDoMoCha craft fair in Dover-Foxcroft on November 23 and at the "Kris Kringle Fair" in Monson on December 7.
A potluck birthday celebration supper is being planned for the actual date of incorporation on February 8, 1997. A 175th birthday ball is scheduled for April 26, 1997. The weekend of June 28 - 29 promises to be a busy one with Saturday morning games for the children, a fantastic parade, sealing of a time capsule, a special anniversary ceremony, a street dance, and church activities the following day. The committee is looking forward to seeing old friends, new friends, residents of Monson, Ma., and anyone else interested in helping Monson celebrate this special time.
